Samsung Galaxy S vs. Samsung Galaxy II

The Samsung Galaxy S was perhaps one of the first awesome smartphones to hit the markets besides the iPhone. With it came saddled the Android Operating system, still in its' youth. Yet, as someone who was looking for a phone that could manage his email, apps, and navigation, this was to be the perfect solution.

Something things that are great about the Samsung Galaxy S was the sliding qwerty keyboard. The phone took the standard PC keyboard, and shrunk it to the side of a card deck, and included the most important symbols such as the 26 letters of the alphabet, function numbers, as well as quick buttons for the web. The phone, like any other android included the android marketplace, which now adays, brings lots of substance. Apps ranging from Pandora, to Bank of America, made life a lot easier on the go. The phone also boasted a 480 x 800 pixel size screen, which is prettuy big for your typical smart phone. It included the typical smartphone sensors: accelerometer, proximeter, compass, with a a Gorilla glass display - the new technology behind the scratch resistant surfaces we take for granted today.

    Samsung Galaxy S Main Specs:
    • AMOLED Capacitive Touchscreen
    • 16m colors
    • 480x800 pixes, 4 inches
    • Multi-touch
    • Gorilla Glass Display
    • 8GB/16GB Internal Display with MicroSD expandability
    • Slider Qwerty Keyboard
    • Talk Time: 6 h 30 Minutes
    • Android OS 2.3

What I saw were the flaws of the Android Galaxy S was that the battery time really was terrible on it. You could probably only use it for 4-6 hours of the day before getting the battery warning symbol. Most people who I know that have the Galaxy S carry around double batteries, or chargers to get them through the day which is extremely unfortunate.

Another thing about the Android Galaxy S was the glitchness of the interface. It would tend to crash when using some apps. The smoothness of the screen transitions was a bit "glitchy" and slow at times. I also noticed functional vibrations when the crashes were occuring which made it extremely annoying at times.

Lastly I had to upgrade the battery to an extended battery to increase the lifetime, thus making the phone bigger and heavier.

    Samsung Galaxy II

Now lets get to the Samsung Galaxy II. I actually think this is an amazing upgrade to a new phone from the previous phone. Everything is faster from the user point of view as well as inside this powerful small machine.

The Galaxy 2 is way thinner and although it does not include a qwerty slider keyboard, it does have an amazingly color bright 480 x 800 pixel screen.

    Samsung Galaxy II Specs

    • 16 GB/32GB Storage with external miniSD Card cabaility
    • Super AMOLED Plus Capacitative touchscreen - 16M Colors
    • Gorilla Glass Display
    • 4G Network Compatibility
    • Android OS v.2.3 (Gingerbread. Planned upgrade to v4.0
    • Dual Core 1.2 GHz
    • Longer Battery Life - 8h 40 minutes on 3G Network
Now having owned both, I can say that the Galaxy S II is a substantial upgrade in both performance and looks. No longer am I comparing the phone to the iPhone. I believe the Galaxy S II beats the iPhone because of its' large screen and its' improved performance. Before when comparing the two, I would say the thing that stood out the most between the Galaxy S and the iPhone was the speed at which the iPhone would run at, the smoothness, and the battery life. No longer are these existing issues with the newly Galaxy 2. The Android operating system has come a long way from what it was.

One thing that is great about the Galaxy II is that it uses a modified version of the Android Gingerbread v.2.3. Using this same operating system on the Galaxy I, there was a different visual design to it. I'm glad that we're pushing these operating systems further than the generic OS that Google has been releasing.

As seen above the Galaxy S2 is on the left.

So is the Galaxy S II better than the iPhone? In my opinion, yes. I've used the iOS and the android, and I think the Galaxy S II brings the the tech to the fight. You get more screen real estate and just an awesome screen. The only complaint I have about it is that the phone is fairly big to hold in your hand. Thats all for now guys, hope this makes choosing a phone a lot easier. I highly reccomend this phone to anyone.

You mention you have owned Samsung Galaxy S and Samsung Galaxy II
    I've used the iOS
Have you owned an iPhone? if so what model.

Galaxy S II looks nice, but not sure if I want to move away from my iPhone yet. Have only met a few people that have gone from the iphone to Galaxy S II, and while they were happy with the new phone, they were not jumping up and down.
