Google may be the top tech company to beat, but do they have too much on their hands? I've a huge believer in Google products, from Google Analytics to the google search engine. Its' amazing how they are the dominant players in so many fields of strong competition.
Mobile Phones
This market is extremely competitive. With existing players such as RIM, Apple, Microsoft, Nokia, and more, Google has entered and successfully domiated with market with over a million activiations a day. Not only do they have the largest number of activated phones, they are slowly taking marketshare from the existing Apple dominance. Furthermore, with Apple and Google being so dominant, they have pushed out the once popular "Blackberry" devices from the market. Its' only a matter of time before Blackberry goes out of business, or will have to role out an android operating phone to keep up with the pace.
Mobile Phone Marketplace
Google went one step further and entered the marketplace of digital goods. The only real competitor here is Apple, who has held a strong foothold with their easy to use app store. However, recently, Google has created a very similar, almost same exact type of easy to use interface marketplace, making Google one step closer to having the top position in the mobile field. I was testing it out yesterday, and the progress they have made is quite astonishing. I like the looks, feel and the functionality of their mobile marketplace, which covers everything from movies, to books, music and apps.
Search Engine
Google didn't invent the search engine. There was Hotbot, Yahoo, and many others fighting for dominance. They were the best at improving it though. Today they really only deal with the competition from Microsofts' Bing, but even then, Google has a strong dominance even though some believe their results aren't the best. From advertisements, to alot of spam, users are now getting extra picky when asking for their search results. It is something that we take for granted these days. The amount of technology research and testing that has brought Googles search engine to what it is today is a feat to be recognized.
Social Network
Google isn't lazy at all. With intense competition from the social network Facebook, Google realized that it needed its' own to help improve its' search results. After all, search results can improve drastically when you have a friend that reccomends something rather than a search result based on generic factors. The introduction of personalized search engines is really at its infant stage and you should expect the search results to drastically increase in quality over time. Besides that, Google has built Google+ with a serious attempt to get a grasp into the social fabric of the web. Many of the features Google + has Facebook has. And if Facebook doesn't have it, you'll notice that they have been adding any differences to stamper the pace of Google's technological advances. Google Banking
If you think Google didn't already have enough on its' hands, they're also becoming a huge bank. With Google Check Out, and Google Wallet, it'll be competing directly with PayPal as well as many major transaction companies. Users of Google will be able to manage their money from paying items online, and at stores with their phones.
Google Web Suite
Its' not actually called Google Web Suite, but they offer so many forms of web development solutions, from Google Anayltics, to Google Webmaster, Google Adsense and Google Analytics. This directly competes with Adbrite, Bing, Yahoo, and all the other analytic and advertising services out there.
Google Cloud
With Google Cloud, syncing your devices is no longer needed. The cloud is basically having one harddrive connected to all your devices at the same time. You can add as many devices as you want and it and it makes file sharing between devices extremely simple. This competes with DropBox, Apple, Amazon, Microsoft and the list goes on.
I personally think Google has too much on its' hands. I haven't named all of their services. They actually have alot more, but this article would be way to long to read.
The reason why they are able to turn products and services so successful is mainly because I think they abuse/use their search engines to their advantage and rank their products number one. If you disagree, try searching a location based place, and Google Places will rank number 1 for that. Is it cheating? Maybe. Are they producing the best results? Possibly. How would we know though since we rarely visit other sites not listed in the top 10.

More employees = more work output.
Google could successfully open up sports stores. It's all in the capital and employees. Both of which Google can effortlessly obtain.

Google will have bitten off more than it can chew when it sees profits declining. Over the past few years, google profits have dramatically risen, even beating expectations. If google is making money, they are achieving their goal and winning, not biting off more than they can chew. Every single google product that I have used from Cloud for my music, Chrome, an android phone, google.com (ya, you use it too), google wallet, and the google app store has preformed above expectations and does something either as good or better than the competition does. The day we start seeing google put out products and services that are shitty, don't meet consumers' needs, and under-perform the competition is the day we see google bite off more than they can chew.
