Not a bad idea, an "@" tag system could be worked out too.
Currently you only get a notification when you get a "Like" on one of your posts. I think it would be a lot more useful if we also got notifications for when we were quoted or tagged (for mods+). Not only would this increase the flow as well as promote conversation, I think it would also create a greater since of community.
I have the same issue with the Y!PP forums. I'll post somewhere, and 30 seconds later I won't be able to find the thread, or I'll have forgotten all about it, so if someone answers I won't see it for days, if ever.
Of course the option to turn off notification for quotes, or tags could be up to the user.
Just an idea, there may be some workaround I'm not familiar with since some forum members do seem to be able to respond and have a decent discussion without the notifications.
(Also, I think there was something that did this a while ago, but whatever it was, it's broken now.)
P.S. Please don't delete this :3 I just have an idea I wanted to shareee. :3 ♥

There's a forum I tend to frequent for students in the UK which had a very nice system set up. Rather than "likes" they had a reputation system, you received negative or positive reputation for your posts from users and the more reputation you received, the more reputation points you could give. It also had a system that showed you who quoted you as well.
However, it's a nice suggestion, but personally I think BuyPoE.com shouldn't change as it's the uniqueness that will allow it to become the best gaming forum of 2012 and help it surpass IGN.
There's a forum that I used to frequent that used @ tags to tag a certain person, or a person could be tagged to a thread. Users would also receive notifications whenever they were tagged/quoted and would even appear in a leaderboard like this.
(I'm sure some people will recognize the forum I'm talking about at this point)
Such a system will help spur conversation and avoid awkward threads where the OP posts and then never reads the thread again.
In a short phrase, getting tagged and quoted notifications will allow Buypoe.com to become the best gaming forum of 2012 and expert analysts state that the implementation of such a system will help BP surpass IGN.
The problem with people giving out reputation points instead of likes is that some people will give out reputation points simply because someone will say something that they agree with. Later down the road reputation points will translate into vouches and then you've got this slew of people who've basically never engaged in the market, but have said a lot of popular/funny things and have a massive amount of reputation points and will be regarded as 'trustworthy'.
