RuneScape Losing The War On Bots

According to a recent letter from Daniel Clough, RuneScape "despite the development team's best efforts" the war on bots is being won by the botters. Wilderness and Free Trade being reintroduced to RuneScape has caused a massive outbreak of gold farming and botting that can't be escaped.

According to the letter, players are urged not to utilize botting services and to report anyone who is known to be using them as well as outlining steps that are being taken by Jagex to keep bots in check. However as Clough puts it, the staff are sinking significant time and money into fighting an opponent whose only business goal is to 'get back into the game'. It's bad news indeed for legitimate players, of course, and it seems like other games have their work cut out for them to stop the oncoming horde of botters.

    Meh, Jagex is stupid.

They spend years trying to fix the problem of botting, go through 2-3 years of changes that removed free trade and the Wilderness, and countless number of lawsuits against companies selling gold, etc.

Then they just say 'Fuck it' and rerelease the Wilderness and free trade because of some poll they took a few months ago, which results just showed what people were saying since the removed free trade.

They should stop whining about it, and hire a guy that knows what he's actually doing.

Only columnists+ can. That's the way it should be. Exclusive writers aren't exactly hand chosen according to an elite scale.

There is almost no possible way to patch bots on RS. Everything in the game holds a value. Bots use that to extreme advantage. Jagex also needs these values. So they absolutely cannot patch them.

They are not allowed to use resources that would detect them running on your computer.

All they can do is catch the botter in action with things like random events.

There is a way to patch them, but that isn't what I said.

And I'm not really sure what you mean by everything in the game holds a value. Monetary Value? A Variable Value? What exactly does Jagex need that the bots need? Money?

Anyway, the majority of botters use clients such as RSbot or RSbuddy to log into Runescape. They technically could detect the client, or just force all users to log in from the website.

The clients run the game through the RS website. There's no way of telling who logs in from RSbuddy unless Jagex literally detected the process on your computer.

And everything in RS holds a numerical value. Every item has a number. Runescape doesn't see items like we do. A swordfish to RS is "337". That's the fish's ID. That's how RS can categorize it and use it as an interactive item. RS uses values like these to run the game.

RS HAS to use a system like this. And the variables ARE, and HAVE to be obtainable. RSBuddy finds the IDs and uses it find things like items, objects, tiles, etc.
