Hello BP'ers, I've come to the conclusion that most of the site's members are PS3 players due to the amount of posts in the section. Starting with that brief statement, as the title may suggest, Playstation Network is being replaced, or demoted rather. This may not have been predicted as Sony has adopted a new CEO and has gotten rid of their first non-Japanese CEO who had a terrible 5 year reign as CEO, Howard Stringer. For those of whom do not know, his replacement is the 51-year-old Japanese Kazuo Hirai, who will take over as President and CEO of Sony Corp, who would like to expand Sony and travel different paths with their capabilities. Which brings us to the topic (or more appropriately, path) at hand, Playstation Network will be replaced by a netwok called Sony Entertainment Network, or SEN for short, as Sony's parent network rather than just using Playstation Network for all of Sony's devices. Although, there is no reason to be alarmed you PSN freaks, there will be no changes to the services you are provided, no fees or anything of the sort, just a name/network change from PSN to SEN. This change will take place on Wednesday, February 8th. Most of you who have a PSN account like myself are probably already aware of this, if you actively check your email that that is linked to your PSN account. Sony explained this change in an email to their customers:

On February 8, 2012, your " Playstation Network Account " will be renamed a " Sony Entertainment Network account " or " SEN account" in conjunction with Sony Computer Entertainment's Playstation 3 system software updates and Playstation Vita System software updates.
Sony then explains that PSN will still remain but only to Playstation users and SEN will reach out to the variety of Sony users. Here is what they had to say:

This transition is based on Sony's goal to enhance offering. As a series of these activities Sony started Network will be aligned with Sony Entertainment Ne our goal of establishing a global comprehensive net games, movies, music and more, all accessible from one convienient account.

The changes will affect Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita users at this time but the change will not be made on the Playstation Portable until a later time.
