Last month it was rumored that ex SAS operative Andy Mcnab and Battlefield 3 executive producer Patrick Bach would join forces to pen a novel that, at the time, was just to be called Battlefield 3.
Andy Mcnab is famous for several non fiction books such as Bravo Two Zero, Immediate Action, and Seven Troop. He also penned several fictional series such as the Nick Stone Missions and the Boy Soldiers Series co authored with Robert Rigby. He has also been working with DICE to aid in the development of Battlefield 3 in the hope of conveying the authenticity of war for the single player campaign and multi player aspect.
Today it has been officially announced by EA that Andy Mcnab will co author Battlefield 3: The Russian with Peter Grimsdale. Battlefield 3: The Russian follows the story of a Russian Special Forces operator named Dima, one of the main characters of the Battlefield 3 single player campaign. Battlefield 3: The Russian begins where the single player campaign will leave off, so one who experiences the single player campaign of Battlefield 3 first and completes it, Battlefield 3: The Russian will continue the action.
Andy Mcnab had this to say with the press release:
"It is impossible for any single medium to fully capture the emotion and intensity of war. The Battlefield 3: The Russian novel is one window into the experience, and the game is another. They complement each other perfectly. Working with DICE has been a fantastic ride. Battlefield 3 is going to surprise people this autumn. The story, the characters, the world and the intense action come together to create a resonant, memorable experience."
Battlefield 3: The Russian releases alongside Battlefield 3 (Playstation 3, Xbox 360, PC) on October 25th in North Amercia (Battlefield 3 releases on October 28th in Europe).
