Buypoers, I have uncovered more Skyrim leaks and subsequently we now have more Skyrim news! Aside from the numerous unboxing videos that are finding their way onto the internet, a leaked image of Skyrim being installed on the Xbox 360 has revealed that the game will take up a very reasonable and unexpected 3.8 GB of space on your harddrive.
This comes shortly after it was revealed that the Skyrim install on PC would only take up 6 GB of space, again - another reasonable install size for such an enormous game. It's been said by critics that this install size is shockingly small for a game as massive as Skyrim, but the VP of
PR and Marketing at Bethesda Pete Hines has continue to defend that:
"content doesn't take lots more space if you know how to build an open world game, which we do."
Cocky - yet very true. Pete Hines has attributed the small install size to Skyrim being:
"more optimized than we've ever had before. And faster. We're using a new engine & we're much better at compression (art/voice/data)."
It seems that we're now approaching a generation of games where the quality of the game will be determined on the number of discs it takes to run, as opposed to the actual quality of the content inside. Gears 3 is a perfect example of a single disc large campaign and deep multiplayer, and that was only released last month! Pete Hines fights fans who fear for the install, recalling about the install size of the previous Elder Scrolls:
"Oblivion was, what, 4.something? Did it have more content than these games being mentioned that have 2x or 3x the install?"
The PC install of Skyrim is roughly about 2 GB larger than Oblivion; and with the huge leaps Bethesda have taken to evolve the series - I do find this whole thing pretty unbelievable.
Granted, Skyrim on the consoles (Xbox 360 and PS3) are going to be scaled back a bit, and probably more compressed. But still, the fact is that Bethesda have managed to fit such a massive, amazing looking game in 3.8 GB on the Xbox 360 - and that truly is a testament to their talent, effort and skill. Let's not forget, this is a game that takes 560 pages worth of a strategy guide to complete!
How do you all feel? Nervous? Or do you have a little faith?
