Great post, Tim. Now, I know what to do =) Also, that 'Request Money' is a great idea.
Many of you have probably faced the problem of having a transaction reversed through PayPal, whether you’re selling gaming currency, or selling your services on a game, it’s not over for you.
There are two stages to a transaction claim, the dispute and the claim. When a user has a problem with the transaction, they will dispute the transaction through PayPal, this will only involve the buyer and the seller, PayPal will merely offer a neutral ground for both users to communicate. If a satisfactory decision is not reached within 1 week of the transaction date, both users may escalate the dispute to a claim. This will directly involve PayPal who will look into the dispute and make a judgement on who should be awarded the funds. If you are trading virtual goods, the SELLER will always win the case unless they don’t answer the claim within 10 days. This is because under PayPal’s terms of service and their Buyer Protection scheme, virtual or “Intangible” goods are not covered.
The question is, how is it that people still lose these claims? It’s quite simple, when the money was sent, it wasn’t sent as payment for a virtual good, it was sent as a payment for a physical item. The best way to ensure that your money is not taken away from you is NOT to have the buyer send the money to your PayPal account, but rather to send them an invoice. Everyone lies, the buyer may state that they’ve sent it as a “gift” or “payment for virtual item”, however in most cases they have not.
To ensure you do not lose out on your money, below will show you the best way to help you keep your cash.
First things first, if the BUYER sends you money through PayPal, refund it straight away, always ensure that you send them an invoice, for non-business users this will be listed as “Request Money”. As shown below, you must enter the buyer’s e-mail, the amount and make sure you select services, rather than goods. Once you have checked this all over, click on “Request”.
You will now be sent to the next page where you enter any messages, make sure you mention that the user is paying for “virtual goods” or “on-line gaming currency”. Don’t forget to throw in some nice words like “By paying this invoice, you agree that you will be receiving virtual goods”, just as shown below.
When you’re happy with everything, send this off to them, if they aren’t happy paying this way and want to send you money instead, refuse and find yourself another buyer, this is for your own safety.
If the buyer ends up filling a dispute, PHONE PAYPAL, do not e-mail them or try to contact the seller, phone them. Many times I’ve had problems with PayPal and it’s all been sorted out by talking to them over the phone, in fact I even received an e-mail stating that my account would be close and PayPal did not wish to do business with me as my account had too many security issues, however when I talked to them over the phone everything was sorted out.
Whatever you do, do not lie to them, tell them the truth and nothing but the truth, do not forget to state that the transaction was for “on-line gaming currency” or “virtual goods”. Please remember, you must be 18 years old to have a PayPal account, if you are younger and have provided fake details, forget winning the claim as they will ask you for your details, ask for evidence and then close your account when they find out you have provided false details or are younger than 18.
If you do end up with a claim or dispute and need some help, drop me a PM, Skype or e-mail and I’ll be happy to help, I cannot phone PayPal on your behalf as I’d need your full-name, address and the last 4 digits of your Credit Card/Bank account, by I can tell you what to say to them and try to help you win the claim. Hello, I was recently scammed by user on mmowned.com.
I payed in Paypal under Goods, and did not change the default message. I clicked "No Postage" because I did not want to include an address. It was $140 in USD, for a SWTOR beta account, a virtual good. All info checked out and we spent about 2 hours conversing.
Due to his reputation here, and 4 years on the site, with over 300 posts, I felt safe.
Also, since I'm new there, I did not realize there were public scammers on there, so I figured reputation on this site and an old account was valuable. It never even crossed my mind to think that he might be publicly scamming people.... lesson learned, unfortunately.
Please tell me how to get the money back, specifically.
Please help get the $ back, all advice greatly appreciated. The quickest method is preferable. Also, if calling is an option in your suggestion, please post specifics with what to say.
I heard that Goods is the best, and non-receipt is the best. This way they will need to provide a tracking number. The user is also unverified. What good should I claim I was buying, and what should I say in the comments?
Thanks you very much.
i have a weird issue >.>
i bought a laptop for 225$ on ebay. on my paypal account i had $0.00. so i added my card number and added the 225$. but while it was processing i found my mistake and was able to pay for it using my debit card. i payed the laptop with my debit card BUT the money was still being processed into my paypal which i found out put my checking account from my bank the the negative. i called to file a dispute with my bank saying it was a mistake and that the 225$ wasnt suppose to be taken out, that i fixed the transaction with my debit card. now while i was with my bank and the dispute, that 225$ was still being processed and then added into my paypal the next day after the dispute. but i looked on my bank statement and it said that the 225$ was reinstated and my checking account wasnt in the negative anymore. but when i logged onto my paypal i still had 225$ and my bank checking wasnt in the negative. so did i like cheat the paypal system? i disputed cause of an accident, got my money back into the checking account at my bank, but kept the 225$ in my paypal even though it was suppose to be in my bank. but as i said on the statement the bank said they reinstated it and i got my money back. so did i cheat it? pay pal?
