How to make a Forum Signature

This tutorial is to show how to make a simple signature, although I will help if you want to go more in depth with it just add me on MSN – dotdotdot20@live.com make sure to add a comment on the invite or I may not accept it; sorry. Also if you don’t like anything within the tutorial, you are more than welcome to change it up the way you see fit.

Programs you will need:
Photoshop – I am personally using CS5 in this tutorial, should work the same for CS4 and lower though, shortcut keys may not be the same though **I will be making a tutorial in gimp on how to make a signature soon (release date tbd) **

Step one: Open Photoshop and create a new image the size of 500 width 100 height, **Make sure to have it set to pixels not inches or it will be massive**, you can tell the difference if you look to the right of the numbers, there is a scroll down box, you click on and change it to Pixels.




Step two: If you notice in the layer box, one of the layers is called “Background� and it has a lock on it, double click on the layer and click the “Ok� button




Alright, your screen should look like this now:




Step three: In your tool bar, it’s to the left of the screen click on the paint bucket, and you will notice on the bottom of your tool bar, there are two squares with colors, the first box (the one overlapping the other) is what color you have selected, if you wish to change the color click on it, and pick what you like. Once you have the color you want selected, while using the paint bucket tool, click on your workspace (the long white box on your screen >.>) I personally picked gray for this tutorial

Your screen should look like this now, except with whatever color you selected:




Step four: Once your workspace is the color you want, it’s time to add text. In your tool bar select the text icon (the T between the pen and the pointer). If you look right below the top of your window (under the file, edit, tools, etc. buttons) you will notice a scroll down box, those are your fonts pick which font you want, in this tutorial I am personally using the font called “Bebas�. If you look to the right of that scroll down box, you will see the font size, and another little square, that’s your font color, change it if you want, although it will not matter for long




Step five: Double click on your Text layer and a box called “Layer style� will appear




Step six: Once in the Layer style window, click on the check box called “Gradient Overlay� **You may need to click on the text if the box is checked and you don’t see anything new**




Step seven: This step is all about editing the gradient, if you like the way it looks now, skip to step eight. Ok, the first thing you will want to is change the angel of the gradient to 70 degrees, you can do that by either moving the wheel, or deleting the numbers, and putting in 70 that way.



Once the angel is changed, if you do not wish to change the color of the gradient, skip to step eight. For those of you that do want to change the color, you will see a scroll down box, click on the gradient in it



You will see a box called Gradient Editor, and if you look to the bottom of the window, you will see the gradient, at the beginning and the end, there are two stops, if you click on them, and look at the bottom of the Editor window, you can change the color of the stop you have selected



If you wish to add more colors, if you simply click on the gradient it will add another stop, if you left click and drag it will move the stop.




Step eight: If you did edit the gradient color, you can click the Ok button. Once done with the gradient, if you look to the bottom of the window, you will see something called “Stroke�, click on it. Once you select stroke in the “Structure� box change the size to 1 px.




Step nine: Now, click on “Bevel and Emboss�. Change the size to 21, and the angle to 0.




Your signature should now look like this:



Now, your text is done, and you have completed your first, very simple signature. Yay! If you are like me, and think it looks rather bland add some brushes to it lower the opacity, and give it an outer glow. Click on the brush tool, and in the box below file, edit, tools, etc. click on this

The brushes I used do not come with photoshop, they need to be downloaded, if you wish to get the brushes I have add me on msn and I’ll either send you a link to download or just send you the .zip (depends on how busy I am) This tutorial may be updated later using the brushes, dunno yet.
