It depends how much money and time you invest. You could just read PDFs but I highly recommend just buying a book for ~50 bucks. Try Head First C# or Head First Java.

I actually haven't read many programming books in English except for Head First C# so I can't really say...

But it shouldn't take too much time though as long as you learn by making small projects (without COPYING the code, that is, but learning from it). That's how most people learn the rest of the basics after understanding the really simple concepts.
