Thread: Star Wars: Battlefront 3

A game in a development studio far far away, long abandoned until its recent resurface, fans gather as the game is now back in development after being shut down for 3 years. If you've played multiplayer shooters back in the old PS2 ethernet days you surely must have come across Star Wars Battle Front. This game. This is the game that got me into multiplayer FPS. The first time I set up my PS3 ethernet was only to play Battlefront 2. It has to have been one of the first FPS's that started it all. For about 5 years now, I've anticipated the third game in the sequel, but nothing. Until now. When I first heard of this news I creamed myself multiple times, a natural reaction for a Battlefront fanboy. This was the game of my gaming childhood.

So onto the game, Battlefront 3 is long overdue and finally news is beginning to surface and hopefully now since it took LucasArts like twenty years to make a third in the series it should be a very good game considering the amount of time the developers were given to get down to business.There has been much controversy on whether the game would come out or not, whether the developers had rights to make it or whether the lead desgn team was fired. But as of now the game is still in development after the 2006 development came to a screeching halt after two long years. Spark unlimited is now in charge of development of the new Battlefront along with LucasArts.

After a few tweets with Spark, it’s apparent the game is passed the Alpha state in terms of the development cycle. Spark commented that the game is undergoing constant testing by a team, meaning that there is a build that is playable. This is good news in terms of the sooner we get to see the game, but this is usually where the most pain goes into development, in terms of regression testing goes. Simply put, their game is probably at the point or past the point that Free Radical’s was when the footage for Battlefront 3 was filmed. This is all just a guess, only based on some loose information provided by Spark.

Now that the game is being created again, it is unclear whether the developers used the old game that was still in development or if they have started from scratch. If you have never play Battlefront 2 I ensure you that you will not get tired of it when you get it at GameStop for 7 bucks. It's well worth it, the third installment should be well worth it as well. I myself cannot wait and I will try and continue to update this article or create new ones regarding the release of Battlefront 3.
